While the focus of the ESG agenda has to date been on tackling climate change, the spotlight is now moving to address the social impact of our business operations.
Legislation is developing swiftly. Last year the U.S. Customs and Border Protection implemented the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act to prohibit imports of products related to forced labor in Xinjiang. Germany’s Act on Corporate Due Diligence in Supply Chains is now in force. The Japanese government also published their HRDD guidelines last year and there is increased need for corporates to demonstrate adequate measures are being taken to respond to stakeholder scrutiny.
