Energy policy sits at the crossroads of economics, geopolitics, and environmental strategy. In early 2025, the inauguration of a second Donald Trump administration signals a stark policy shift away from the green energy focus of the Biden era and towards a more fossil-fuel-friendly agenda. This – coupled with broader protectionist policies – could have major ramifications for global energy markets and macroeconomic stability.
In this seminar, Andy Cates explores the expected contours of Trump’s energy policy, beginning with a discussion of why energy prices matter so profoundly for the global economy. He then examines how a rollback of green energy subsidies and the revival of fossil fuel projects in the US could reshape global energy supply dynamics. Finally, he considers the broader implications for energy prices, inflation, economic growth, and geopolitical alignments.
