Mission of Japan Institute for Overseas Investment |
The Japan Institute for Overseas Investment (JOI) collects and analyzes a wide range of information from various institutions and organizations in Japan and overseas. By utilizing and disseminating information beneficial for foreign direct investment (FDI), JOI aims to facilitate sound and smooth FDI direct investment from Japan and to contribute to the expansion of international economic cooperation with many countries around the world. @

Seminars
JOI
holds seminars regarding a wide range of topics on pragmatic
themes that are of particular interest to Japanese business
entities, by inviting specialists in various fields from
law, accounting and business consulting firms.
JOI also arranges seminars on the economy and investment
when a key foreign government official visits Japan so
as to provide information on the investment climate and
business opportunities in that country.
JOI co-hosts or sponsors about 100 seminars each year
for its members.

2. Publications
gBimonthly
magazine: Kaigai-Touyushih
JOI
publishes a bimonthly magazine titled Kaigai-Touyushi
(Foreign Investment and Finance) for subscribers. The
"Special Feature" periodically reports on FDI
trends of Japanese companies, and introduces up-to-date
information on the investment climate in countries/regions
presenting promising business opportunities.
The magazine also provides the useful information in its
"World Report" describing the economic and social
circumstances from various parts of the world, as well
as practical "In Depth Study" contributed by
specialists from various professional fields.

3. Research
JOI conducts research upon request on a wide range
of topics, such as the investment climate in emerging markets, as
well as on various sectors, such as energy. JOI gathers information
both within Japan and overseas via its own independent network and
analyzes this information drawing upon an extensive base of accumulated
knowledge to produce reports that satisfy the needs of clients requiring
such specialized research services.

Area of Research(Example)
JOI conducts comprehensive research on the investment climate in an assigned area which would serve as a preliminary survey for a feasibility study centering on an emerging market, where there are prospects for an expansion of direct investment by Japanese companies.
Industry (Energy, Automobile etc.) ))
JOI examines the potential investment opportunities in a given sector, such as the energy sector including electric power, oil and gas as well as the automotive and telecommunication sectors, where further investment by Japanese firms is anticipated.

JOI also conducts research in the areas of the environment and economic cooperation, where business opportunities are rapidly expanding by Japanese companies.
Characteristics of Research
JOI has acquired extensive research experience since its establishment in 1991 dealing with emerging markets all over the world as well as China and India.
JOI has broad-based networks in the public sector that include international institutions, foreign government agencies, and organizations seeking to attract foreign investment, and in the private sector that include experts from think tanks, law firms, and accounting firms.
JOI offers flexible service to accommodate the special needs of individual cases with due attention to changes in the domestic and international business climate surrounding Japanese companies.

activities of JOI. Users can access useful information on the development
of foreign ventures and investment as a gateway to further information
on FDI. A wealth of information is available on the investment climate
in different countries focusing on China and ASEAN.
The website also has a large
number of links to investment promotion agencies
both domestic and overseas.
5. Building of Information Network with Foreign Direct
Investment Related Institutions in Japan and Overseas
JOI
has entered into comprehensive cooperation agreements
with 75 foreign investment promotion agencies in 49 countries
and with six international organizations (including IFC,
EBRD, ADB, and IDB, etc.), with the aim of establishing
an effective network of business co-operations to exchange
information and resources regarding foreign direct investment.

Carbon Credit Trading Platform
JOI
Carbon Credit Trading Platform provides useful information
relate to carbon credit trading. It is hoped that it will
be used by any companies that tackle global worming issues
through GHG emission reduction credits.
